Heat Pump Repair in Jacksonville

Heat pumps are the most common heating system in Northeast Florida. One system provides both cooling and heating, reversing its normal cooling operation on colder days to bring heat into your home.

Because heat pumps can sit in cooling mode for most of the year, heating problems often show up on the first cold night. Mighty Air diagnoses and repairs:

  • Reversing valve problems
  • Defrost controls and sensors
  • Compressor and refrigerant-related issues
  • Electrical components and control boards
  • Thermostat communication problems
  • Auxiliary and emergency heat operation
  • Airflow and ductwork restrictions

What's normal for a heat pump, and what's not

What's Normal for a Heat Pump, and What's Not

A heat pump doesn't blast hot air the way a gas furnace does. Air at the vents typically runs in the 90s, compared with 120 degrees or more from a furnace, so it can feel cool to the hand even when the system is working fine. On cold, damp mornings the outdoor unit will run a defrost cycle, and you may see steam rise off it for a few minutes. Your thermostat may show "AUX" during that time. That's the heat strips helping out, and it's normal.

What isn't normal: "AUX" showing most of the day, the outdoor unit iced over and not clearing, or a house that keeps losing ground on the thermostat. Those usually point to a defrost control, reversing valve, refrigerant, or heat strip problem.

Electric heat and auxiliary heating repairs

Electric Heat & Auxiliary Heating Repairs

Many Florida HVAC systems use electric heating elements or auxiliary heat strips to provide additional heating when needed. Mighty Air can diagnose problems involving compatible electric heating elements, sequencers, relays, thermostats, wiring, and other electrical controls. Auxiliary heat can operate normally under certain conditions, like very cold mornings or a defrost cycle. But if it runs frequently, runs constantly, or doesn't turn on when it should, something in the system needs attention.

Schedule Heating Repair
Why is my heat pump blowing cold air?

Air from a heat pump can feel less warm than furnace heat, which is normal. Persistent cold air can point to a thermostat, defrost, reversing valve, refrigerant, or auxiliary heat problem that should be inspected.

Why won't my heat pump switch to heat?

Problems with the thermostat, reversing valve, electrical controls, or refrigerant system can keep a heat pump from heating. A technician can test the system and find the cause.

Why is my auxiliary heat running all the time?

Auxiliary heat should only run when the heat pump needs extra help. If it runs constantly, the heat pump may not be producing enough heat on its own.

Is it worth repairing an older heating system?

It can be. Age alone doesn't decide it. The equipment's condition, repair cost, parts availability, and repair history all matter.

Do you repair heating systems for businesses?

Yes. Mighty Air provides heating repair for residential and light commercial properties in Jacksonville and surrounding areas.
